Web Design

What is Web Design?
We define Web design as the look-and-feel of your site. If you want a design that has a lot of blinking and flashing yellow and pink text on a red background, we are not the company for you. If you want a clean, functional design, then you're in the right place.

Good Web design means:

  • conveying your site's message in an easy to navigate, intutive, and clean way.
  • knowing the latest user statistics (approximately 83% on users now have a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater, Firefox is at 17% marketshare, IE7 at 41%, IE6 at 36%, etc.).
  • creating a site that can be programmed to look good in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, on Windows and Macintosh.

Since we understand the intricasies of programming for different browsers, we understand what a design should and should not do (with current technologies, anyways).

What is involved in a design?
So what's involved in creating your site design? Randomly selecting a template and slapping on some new colors? No! Our designs are specifically made to fit your needs. Our design process is focused on what will best convey your needs, your message, and your personality. Some content might demand bright, punchy colors, others a more subdued palette. Some websites might require a complex layout, while others would best have their message conveyed with simplicity. If you know of some sites that you would like us to use as an inspiration, then by all means, let us know.

What is the Process?
Personal experience has found that designing a site is always easiest when (1) you know, at least in general, the type and length of content involved, and (2) you have a logo (the logo helps establish an initial feel for how the site should be laid out).

Typical questions we ask when thinking about laying out your site are:

  • What is the general purpose of your site?
  • What is the overall message you want to convey?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What categories can your content be logically broken in to?
  • How much, and what type, of content will be on a page?
  • Do you have any particular ideas you would like us to try and incorporate?

Once we have a general idea, we will block out various site designs. Think of these as a sketch of your site. Once a general design is selected, we will work on fleshing it out, getting the mode and theme solidified, etc. When the design is finalized, we will use it as a blueprint for the creation your site. At this point we will program your site, putting actual content and images.
